After adverse weather drew business to a close early yesterday, the Farnborough International Airshow closed on an upbeat note today with the F-35 making its Farnborough debut and the order book closing at US$59.7 billion, comprising 380 aircraft, 309 engines and a positive US$2.5bn recorded in the halls.

Notable deals included Virgin Atlantic concluding its purchase for 12 Airbus A350-1000 and the UK Government confirming the purchase of 50 Apache Helicopters and 9 Boeing P-8 Poseidon aircraft. Topping the order book today was AirAsia who signed up for 100 Airbus A380neos.

Speaking about the show so far, Farnborough International Commercial Director, Amanda Stainer said, “The forecast for both the weather and orders have been un-predictable. The Paris, Dubai and Singapore airshows all recorded quite low order figures and we were expecting similar numbers here at Farnborough. However, we are encouraged by these figures beating Dubai’s total in just day two.”

Shaun Ormrod, Farnborough International Chief Executive, further added, “The Farnborough International Airshow still remains an opportunity for manufactures to announce major aircraft orders and showcase their latest hardware. However it’s as much about the networking and engagement the event creates for the supply chain industry witnessed by the 1500 exhibitors, 71% from oversees, that come to Farnborough to do business.”
